Opening event | GEAS: Women Who Study the Earth
Opening event: March 6 · 6:00 p.m.
The CSIC Delegation in the Balearic Islands and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME-CSIC), in collaboration with the Estudi General Lul·lià, are organizing in Palma the exhibition ‘GEAS: Women Who Study the Earth’, a showcase that aims to recall the forgotten history of twelve pioneering women geologists so that it may inspire future generations in their struggle for equality in science. The exhibition is part of the March 8 program, International Women’s Day, and is conceived as a celebration extended throughout the month of March, with activities open to the general public.
We open the exhibition with an open meeting between:
- Ana Ruiz Constán, one of the authors of the book GEAS (IGME-CSIC).
- Nívola Uyá, illustrator of the book and the exhibition.
A conversation about the origin of the project, the importance of female role models in science, and the role of visual communication.
The session will include a brief guided tour of the exhibition.
⏱ Approximate duration: 60–75 minutes
About the exhibition
‘GEAS, Women Who Study the Earth’ is based on the book of the same name published by IGME-CSIC (with Ana Ruiz Constán and Rosa María Mateos as authors) and presents, through texts and original illustrations by Nívola Uyá, the careers of women who have made decisive contributions to the knowledge of geology, paleontology, oceanography, and other disciplines related to Earth Sciences. The exhibition combines scientific outreach and artistic creation, generating a space for dialogue between science, history, and contemporary role models.
